A mere 15 seconds of bow-shooting, robot-smashing action were shown off in the teaser trailer for Crysis 3, but EA has now returned with a more respectable offering. The new trailer gives about 90 seconds of urban jungle adventuring, showing more shiny things coming in Crytek's FPS.

Sure, it's all cut up into tiny little segments, and there are distorted soundtrack hits blasting over the top so you can't really hear anything, but hey--at least it's not a live-action trailer.

Crysis 3 is coming to PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in spring 2013. Pre-ordering gets you an XP headstart and early unlocks in multiplayer, plus some other trifling gubbins.

And robots (even if they are robors from outer space) as the main villains are pretty damn boring.

I got my fun out of Crysis 2, and I'm a huge fan of the first game, but I'm not quite sure I'm ready to pay full price for more of the same. I wish they'd bring back the open maps in a jungle setting. It just isn't as much fun when it's just a well disguised corridor. One could argue it was that in Crysis 1 as well, but at least it was wide.

As for my personal taste, WAY to dark and moody, I like the bright open areas with smart enemies (non bum-rushing), I do not like cramped dark shit houses filled zombie like (bullet sponge, bum-rushing) enemies. This sure looks like the latter.

Oh, he's the guy Prophet gave the suit too. But I thought Prophet went back to the island too? Oh, but yeah... no. Alcatraz is now Prophet! Fuck Alcatraz, it's Prophet again. But Psycho is in this one, so cool. But what about Nomad? The one who fought the ice Aliens that were a cool and scary threat. No, fuck that story. Let's do Prophet fighting the insect monsters because yeah.

It was pretty clear after playing HL1 that aliens are not as interesting. Fighting humans always seems more interesting than aliens. With aliens it is just not as satisfying to win and sometimes it is hard to predict alien behavior because you have no reference point.

That's always easy to say but the fact is I need this kind of crazy stuff going on to really be interested. I don't want to just be shooting dudes all the time. Sorry. Aliens, trigens, vortigaunts, whatever. I want that variety and I don't give a shit if they don't all act the same and provide exactly the same amount of fun. That's to be expected.
If they need aliens to make Jungle New York make sense then I want aliens because I want that jungle city.

FEAR kind of did it both ways, it was crazy stuff but you still only really fought humans. So I guess it's possible but one can hardly replicate that every time.

The problem is the people who want Modern Warfare, Battlefield, and their ilk over and over already have, well, Modern Warfare and Battlefield for that. That market may be the largest but it's already full. It's like how every MMO tried to be World of Warcraft for the longest time until they finally figured out if people wanted WoW, they'd play WoW.

Believe it or not there is a segment of the gamer populace that actually has an appetite for games that aren't the same brown-and-grey modern warfare bullshit that has dominated the genre for the better part of a decade now.

God forbid some people actually appreciates variety in their games. Sorry it so offends you that Crytek has catered to that.

And for what it's worth I doubt many Half-Life fans would share your sentiment about the series being better with only human soldier enemies.

Battlefield fans might agree but guess what? Battlefield fans buy Battlefield games. Half-Life fans buy Half-Life games.

And Crysis fans buy Crysis games. It's the way it works. Every time developers try to appeal to those who aren't fans of their game in the first place, it's a mistake.

Given that they managed to fit Crysis 1 on both the X360 and the PS3, I wouldn't worry all that much. I don't like the idea of consoles holding games back either, but we have games like Skyrim that play just fine despite being multiplatform.

I don't buy the "consoles ruined Crysis thing". Crysis 2 isn't as good as 1 but it's not half as bad as people make it out to be.

And again - Crysis 1 is on consoles. Does that fact retroactively ruin that game too? Not for me.

It's just an in-thing to hate on Crytek now. They "betrayed" PC gamers and shattered their fragile little Aspertard egos by making games for consoles, and their second game wasn't exactly the same as their first one. Oh noes. Plus they said something once that acknowledged that piracy is a thing that exists. Another big no-no for PC gamers.
