Wasteland 2 Kickstarter ends with $3.04 million
by Alice O'Connor, Apr 17, 2012 5:30am PDTWhen inXile's crowd-funding drive for a Wasteland 2 hit its goal within two days, it was clear it'd be something big. As the pledging period ended this morning, inXile confirmed that it has scooped $3,040,574 to make a sequel to the classic post-apocalyptic RPG.
The Kickstarter project page only shows $2,933,147, but $107,427 in Paypal pledges pushed it over the top.
The original goal was only $900,000, so what will all this extra money mean for the game? At $1.5 million, Mac and Linux versions were promised. Hitting $2.1m meant inXile could afford to draft Obsidian Entertainment, the studio founded by veterans of Fallout and Planescape: Torment developer Black Isle, to help out. The $2.5m mark brought funding for larger and deeper world. Passing $3 million means that yes, we can expect mod tools too.
Of course, the actual amount of money the studio gets to make the game will be a little smaller, what with Kickstarter and Amazon Payments fees and some people's payments undoubtedly not processing. Still, it's a whole heap o' money.
