Police Warfare Kickstarter underway

Another new Kickstarter project started today: Police Warfare, a multiplayer shooter with cues from Battlefield pitting cops against robbers.

9

Titled "Police Warfare," the multiplayer shooter from Elastic Games lets players step into the LAPD SWAT team, or an armed gunman trying to score a heist. It's also seeking funding from Kickstarter.

Police Warfare aims to be similar to Battlefield 1943, as a downloadable multiplayer shooter with plenty of depth for those who put in the time. Both the police and thieves will have access to various types of special equipment, including rappelling ropes, helicopters for quick entry, taser guns and mines, tear gas, and bomb squad robots.

You'll choose between the Assault, Sniper, or Support classes, and backers of $100 or more get a "secret class" with its own specialized weapon kit. The modes sound akin to Battlefield as well. Heist Mode is similar to Rush Mode, and Warzone is standard control point conflict. Check out the debut trailer below.

The Kickstarter project is aiming to hit $325,000 by Friday, May 18. As of the time of writing, it's gained almost $15,000. If the project exceeds its planned funding goal, the developers hope to make more maps, weapons, and console releases.

OMG WEAPON RENDERS! What do they need my $325,000 for, this looks like a publisher would snap it up in a heartbeat. I'm already tired of fund whoring for games via Kickstarter. At least a beta asking for a buy in has something to show/play.

the grand sum of kickstarter projects is starting to look like a bit like the late 90s mod scene all over again. except instead of begging for coders and designers, people are begging for money.

ok this is getting tiring. They are not going to be able to make the game they want for 300k. I mean they are basically describing that heist game that was like left4dead..and i gaurantee that game cost more than just 300k.

I agree it's getting a bit tiring but I think the 300k is to help build a demo style level, not the entire project. Even so, that is still pretty low. I'd assume they're going with an engine like UDK/unreal or crytek and slightly modding it, otherwise it sounds even crazier at 300k.

A demo of a prettier Counterstrike isn't going to win major backing they need to pull this off. Look at Minh "Gooseman" Le, he's been struggling for years to create the next best warfare, and he's the freaking co-creator of counterstrike.

haha yeah that's actually slightly sad about Gooseman.

The game for free *IF* the demo gets made successfully and *IF* a publisher actually like it and *IF* they fund it to completion and *IF* and *IF* and on and on

I honestly don't know why anyone entering into these things thinks they are obligated to receive anything, legally or otherwise. The entire process is so incredibly informal that I would not expect a single, tangible result from donating any money to a Kickstarter.

The weapon models in the video looked very impressive, particularly those smoke effects. And I would be really impressed if those screenshots are in-game.

Also, there aren't enough games these days which let you play as an ordinary cop. In fact, I can't think of any except maybe LA Noire, but that's different. We need more police FPS action games.

The True Crime games made you play as a cop, they even took away points for killing civilians. I only beat the first one, but I'm pretty sure it even had a different ending if you were good cop or bad cop.

playing as a real cop would be boring, who wants to pretend to sit in a car and eat donuts for 8 hours

Models look good. But it looks fairly generic and pretty derivative. I'm all for funding indie project but I don't think this is my cup of tea. Good luck to 'em though.

And Team Lead Sound Designers on Assassin's Creed 2. So he's probably pretty good at the sound stuff. But Lead Game Designer is a quite different gig.

Unless it's someone else that is otherwise unlisted on MobyGames, that just happen to share the name.
