I saw this trailer at least 20 times while I waited in line at PAX East to play this game. I also had one of the devs explain a bit to me. That big ship (I think they call it the Ark) has some kind of issue and needs to crash land. The ship is heading for NYC where the captain's wife and kids live (and a few million other people I guess) and he's working to push the tragectory off into the ocean somewhere. While doing that it turns out that there is like a 90% chance the ship will hit Brazil. So the guy has to choose between killing his family or most likely taking out several million people in Brazil. I guess he chooses Brazil.

When the ship crashes it creates some kind of global event which messes up the whole planet and creates the 'melding'. A bunch of bad stuff comes out of the melding.. I guess it touches other dimensions or something. It's also how they explain the different shards or "channels" in the game. One of the devs told me about a mission they are working on where you can actually go into the melding and fight stuff to survive while trying to get out to your destination. It sounded cool.

Er... you are confused. At least on the details. Both cities are in Brazil, one, a smaller city has his wife and kid. The other Rio has millions of people. At first he is going to hit divert to hit Rio and save his family, but in the end he can't do it and he sacrifices his family to save more people and not hit Rio...

Having spent a bit of time playing the beta at pax I can say it's a pretty fantastic game. Clearly still in development, but the core gameplay is great!

Ah, ok. I knew it was something like that, it was loud in there when I was talking to the guy. I got the basic idea though.

Yeah, I've been playing quite a bit since PAX and I'm enjoying it quite a bit. The MP is especially fun I think. The MMO stuff is pretty cool, but I hope a lot more depth is coming in the future because just doing random Thumpers could get old after a while. The game looks and plays great though. The bones are good, I just hope they keep adding more good content.
