Bulletstorm... the trick mechanics got old fast and the narrative was not motivating at all. I had to force myself to finish it and I was glad when it was over so I didn't have to play more of it.
Crysis 2 ... extremely bland scenario. What was awesome about anything you see in this game, Jeff? It's a boring conrete jungle from start to finish. I gave up about 2/3rds in because I couldn't stand the same boring combat combat scenario anymore..
And Far Cry 2 ... man, that game was just a stinker. Good first impressions but becomes the most boring copy-and-paste sandbox I ever saw. What was directed about that game? Sometimes I wonder if Canatta played more than 10 minutes of the games he's talking about. "Two much of the same thing too often" applies to this game, not to Far Cry 1 (that game had different weaknesses; the mutant parts, for example).
Crysis 1 beats all these games easily.

Bulletstorm was a fun shooter. You had to embrace the whole trickshot mentality and keep switching up weapons instead of my usual embrace a particular weapon for the majority of the game. The trickshots were almost like puzzle elements of how do I arrange things so that I can make this happen. So I guess I'm more in-line with Jeff here.
Crysis 2 was somewhat bland to me. It is the most linear game Crytek has released and for me seemed to be the least inspired - i.e. it is too formulaic. I quit playing for a while but did come back and finish the game. It's a good game, but nowhere near Far Cry, Crysis, or Crysis: Warhead levels.
Far Cry 2 had one serious flaw, the checkpoints. The enemies there should have respawned based on the clock (i.e. the next morning) not 5 minutes after they were cleared out. What makes the game is the story. By the time I was two-thirds in I hated my character. The ads were correct - he was becoming the very person he had come there to kill. Then the ending pulled it all together.
Crysis (and to a little lesser extent Crysis: Warhead) was a great game but I feel like Crytek relied too much on the suit to create the variety in the levels. It's hard for me to compare it to Far Cry 2 because they are such different games (for being shooters) and what I love about them is different.
Far Cry (original PC version, not the Instincts or Predator ports) is the best of all these games. The levels are amazing. I have played some of them tens of times and never had the same experience. You can rush areas. You can snipe and sneak around to a different vantage point as the enemies are searching the last location. The corridor fights provide some change of pace where you have to go through certain areas.
The game doesn't rely on a suit to create these options. They are there for whatever play style you choose just based on the way the levels are laid out. If you are willing to be patient and search you can find multiple paths to any given destination. I'm hoping Far Cry 3 brings back some of the great level design (trailers make it seem like it might) because Crytek seems to have lost this ability in Crysis 2.
As for Jeff's complaint about Far Cry being too open, aren't you the person who loved Skyrim? It really does show difference in taste. I find the idea of Skyrim far more open and daunting than I do Far Cry. I loved having a small island I could explore and find different ways around but in the world of Skyrim there is just too much area to explore in the same way.
Which is why I'm glad neither Jeff nor I have been made emperor of video games with the power to veto a game being made. He can enjoy Skyrim, and I'll replay some Far Cry levels.
