Mass Effect 3 multiplayer promos lack Sony approval

Mass Effect 3's multiplayer mode has gotten special weekends on PC and Xbox 360, but BioWare says Sony is standing in the way of offering the same for PlayStation 3 players.

BioWare has been pumping out a steady stream of weekend events for it's horde-like Mass Effect 3 multiplayer mode. So far, though, not a single one of them has appeared on the PlayStation 3. So what's the deal? BioWare's latest promo announcement reveals that Sony hasn't approved of it.

"Unfortunately, we are not yet able to offer our Multiplayer Challenge weekends on PlayStation 3. Sony has not yet approved the promotion," reads an announcement on the BioWare Blog. "We continue to work with them to find a compromise, but until then, Sony will not allow us to run the same Multiplayer Challenges on the PlayStation 3 that we run on Xbox 360 and PC."

BioWare has mentioned this problem before, but kept its statements more vague without assigning blame. "We are continuing to work with Sony to enable these types of Operations on the PlayStation 3 platform," the company stated two weeks ago. By pointing the finger at Sony, BioWare may be hoping that fans will help grease the wheels a bit and force Sony to relent.

For those on PC and Xbox 360 who can participate in this weekend's promotion, "Operation Resurgence" will reward players using the free Resurgence Pack. Playing on one of the new maps grants a 10% XP bonus, and participants will gain a "Reserves Pack" that guarantees one of the new alien classes.

Most people only play MP because you're forced to in order to get the best ending.

I had planned to play it anyway, but once I reached 100% in all sectors I stopped. It's a really lackluster feature, feels like it was added in a rush because someone heard that people like coop.

Well, to some of us, like the people at Rooster Teeth and I find the Multiplayer a very enjoyable experience. Also, has some good heart pumping moments.

Actually, I think MP is a nice addition because there's are features and experiences that just aren't present in the SP.

            - Enjoyment of coop with human players, particularly friends.
            - Increased challenge. Gold Difficulty is *MUCH* harder than anything you face playing Insanity SP.
            - Unique play styles for some of the alien classes. Particularly the overpowered Krogan Sentinel which you can viably play Silver and top the scoreboard without shooting your gun at all if specialized in pure melee.
            - Also Geth's Hunter Mode is unique, sacrificing 50% shields for massive offense bonuses and wall-hacks.
            - New weapons and skills being added.

All in all, I feel like this is the next evolution of combat for the series -- definitely has more variety available than the SP when you include the alien race bonuses and special skills. I hope the next ME universe game lets you play any race for SP rather than locked down as a human Shepard.

Jokes on them, all the endings are the worst.

I would probably play it more as a standalone game if the unlock and matchmaking systems weren't absolute balls.

the matchmaking is completely fucking absurd. it doesn't appear to even attempt to match you with people of a similar skill or level. Sometimes you'll end up playing with a level 400 krogan soldier who quite literally charges in to every fucking enemy on the battlefield, scoring 4-5x as much as everybody else combined, and making the game quite boring.

and don't even get me started on the fucking lobby. Why exactly is there no time limit in there? People just fuck around so goddamn much that you can be waiting 10 minutes for them to get ready, and you don't dare quit and find another game or you might end up having to wait 20 minutes.

I need more friends who play this game.

What are you playing on? If its PC add me to your Origin friends list. Same as my shackname. There are a few of us on there quite often. Also make sure to jump on the TS server.

I agree with the matchmaking. I think it just lumps the first 2+ people that are waiting for a game together and thats it. It doesn't seem to have any sort of level preference, class mix, or anything else taken into consideration.

The last game I was in was three N7 level 1-3 guys, and me. Yeah that wasn't fun. At least I swapped to my Vanguard and killed some fuckers. :)

I've never waited more than a minute or so to get into a lobby with other players. Sometimes you've got the asshat that goes AFK for 10 minutes, but it is fairly easy to kick those guys (as long as everyone is on TS or using a mic so you can speak to them).

ME3's multiplayer is actually a lot of fun.

By the time I get around to ME3 the multiplayer community will have all dried up and I'll be stuck with the worst possible ending.

It's things like this that developers just fail to think of. They should never have tied the SP outcome to the MP mode.
