Are you ready for some heavy-duty fighting and alliteration? Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is coming to retail this September, Namco Bandai announced today. This release announcement narrows the window very slightly from the previous announcement of a holiday release.

The publisher boasts that it will have the largest roster in Tekken history, coming in with 50 characters. Plus it will feature one-on-one fights, thus undermining the entire point of a tag tournament. Other features include one-on-team fights, pair play for up to four players, and a customizable training character named Combot, who presumably just lives to get beaten mercilessly by aspiring champions. Poor Combot.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 will likely lay the groundwork for features we can expect to appear in Tekken X Street Fighter, Namco's side of the Capcom partnership to create two cross fighting games. Capcom has already released its half, Street Fighter X Tekken, with the Vita version due this fall. The other game, which will be styled more akin to the Tekken style of play, is probably giving Capcom's version a wide berth, and may launch sometime next year.
