Demon's Souls shutting down (really) at end of May
by Steve Watts, Apr 11, 2012 5:00pm PDTThe Demon's Souls servers are finally going to meet that great cloud network in the sky. Publisher Atlus has announced that the game servers will be shut down at 11:59 PM PST on May 31. For real this time.
Game Informer reports that to mark the occasion, Demon's Souls will have two World Tendency events based on fan votes in May -- one May 1-15, and the other May 16-31. The single-player portion of the game, of course, will remain unaffected, so you can continue to die horribly without the asynchronous messages.
"Thank you to the unparalleled passion and support of the Demon's Souls community throughout these last two and a half years," Atlus marketing VP Tim Pivnicny said in a statement. "The online adventure may end soon, but the memory of it—just like that of every boss strategy, every level floor plan, and hidden secret—lives on in the gamers for whom the game was so special."
The game's sequel, Dark Souls, is still going strong and has not announced plans to pull the plug on the servers. If you're still playing Demon's Souls and disappointed by this news, you might want to consider an upgrade sometime in the next month.
