Weekend Confirmed 107 - Borderlands 2, Republique, Ridge Racer Unbounded

By Garnett Lee, Apr 06, 2012 11:00am PDT

Fresh off the reveal of the reveal of the ambitious iOS game Republique which will be the debut title for his newly formed Camoflaj studio, Ryan Payton joins Garnett and the two Jeffs this week. They discuss the mix of stealth, exploration, and some voyeurism going into the design and the aspirations for it in advance of a Kickstarter campaign that begins Monday. With the Mass Effect "Extended Cut" announced the subject of bringing big games to a conclusion also comes up. There are new games to talk about as well with Jeff sharing some impressions from four and a half hours of playing Borderlands 2, Garnett giving a quick take on Ridge Racer Unbounded (don't think you know how that goes), and, yes, Yakuza 4 talk. All that and Finishing Moves tops things off.

  • Hi,

I totally agree with the Ridge Racer Unbounded comment. It's a decent game, but it's not a Ridge Racer, it's like they grabbed the cars of ridge racer and put it on a Burnout module and pressed enter.

On the Street Fighter X Tekken DLC deal, I'm giving Capcom nothing, I didn't even buy the game, there's going to be a new version of it anyway, I'm just not sure if it's called Super, Ultimate, Arcade or a new word they find for it.

And what I think kickstarter is doing is a terrific thing, it's making a bridge so that the gamers are the developers publishers, that can be dangerous but also a way to make a highly profitable game. After all we're giving them money to make a game that they will then proceed to sell. And they're going to have a great marketing, the word of mouth from the gamers that funded the game. Because the backers will talk to their friends so they have someone to discuss the game with besides the internet.

And I also picked up Yakuza 4 and (3 as a bonus offering) for this moment before Diablo 3 bursts on May.
