Original Fallout free this weekend on GOG

If you miss the classic RPGs, the original Fallout is free on GOG for 48 hours.

There has been a resurrection of classic RPGs lately, with Baldur's Gate, Wasteland and Shadowrun all in the news. If this nostalgia is making you hungry for more, GOG has a great deal for you this weekend.

The 1997 classic Fallout is available for free from GOG's online store until 11:59 p.m. GMT on April 8. It usually sells for $5.99.

Although GOG recently changed its name to reflect a new retail model of offering newer games, it's nice to see they still cater to us good old gamers.

Don't forget, this comes from GoG which means extras. In this case, the Fallout Bible. Here's a taste:

I remember the DOS-based installer gave Windows fits for years, and then it showed you this unskippable trailer for Planescape: Torment that did nothing to explain or make me want the game and just pissed me off instead. The GOG installer is worth $6 just to have it native on Windows alone.

I think they fixed whatever Windows issues there were. I have an old copy of it that I got from gogamer and it installs fine. Also apparently you can do a manual install by just copying stuff over and it should work.

*sigh* I've got it on my account now. and I know I should play it, lord knows I've tried before, but I just couldn't enjoy it. If I was to try again, what can I do to maximise the enjoyment?

What's been the turn off the times you did give it a go?
Controls, story failing to hook off the bat, lack of a solid direction off the start, difficulty at the beginning?
