SamHell Does Drakan

Our homeboy SamHell here at the Shack has slapped up his latest 10 questions, today features some chit-chat with Mike Nichols of Surreal Software.

Put simply, the benefits of making your own engine are in the game. Drakan would still be impossible to create by even the standards of today’s engines on the market. Surreal’s Riot Engine is so beautiful at creating organic shapes. I love Quake and Unreal but licensing them was never a consideration. When we started Surreal late in ‘95 we always wanted to do something different than corridor games of the day
