Harmonix announces Rock Band Blitz

Rock Band developer Harmonix has revealed its next new game, Rock Band Blitz.

Harmonix has unveiled its new music game, but this one doesn't iunvolve instruments or playing with your friends. Rock Band Blitz is billed as "fast, loud and silly" and is a major departure from what the company has done previously.

Harmonix project Director Matthew Nordahus told X-play that the game is not so much about musical authenticity. It is an arcade game where the player can play all the musical tracks with a controller. Players can jump between tracks to get powerups and multipliers.

Blitz will work with the more than 3,700 songs previously released by Harmonix, but will also have 25 of its own songs that can be played in Rock Band 3.

The game will launch this summer on PSN and Xbox Live. The company also plans to release weekly DLC and will work with all the Rock Band games.

that's what an MP3 player is for. this sounds like some kind of shitty cell phone game. why would anyone want to play this on PS3 or 360?

People that enjoyed Frequency and Amplitude? Y'know, the games that Harmonix made before Guitar Hero?

        I do.

Amp/Freq were great games. Here, HMX just announced a game that reuses your current library. It's gravy to tide us over.

Yeah, the music library is pretty crazy. I mean, it's not just making a Amplitude sequel, it's setting the game free to be current into perpetuity. Thats fucking crazy.

Add to that if there leaderboard thing is anything like EA's Autolog or what they have for SSX, or Pinball FX2's tracker..."Deathlove just beat your score at 'Say It Ain't So'!"

Yes, it's not what RB was meant to do, but even if this is 1200 msp/$15, it's basically a different game reusing content you have.

It would have been completely stupid if the existing RB track compatibility was not there. It would have been a triffing interest.

Sounds a lot like Rock Band Unplugged on the PSP, which I actually really liked. And hey, 25 free tracks that'll work in Rock Band 3 is nothing to sniff at, depending on what they are.

I LOVED RBU, but this looks far simpler sadly. Man, when you got in the flow with that game it was awesome.
