After 17 years and over 20 games, the Worms series is getting a little long in the tooth. As developer Team17 works to get out of that rut with the newly-announced Worms Revolution, it'll be getting a helping hand from the series' creator, Andy Davidson, who has now rejoined the English indie studio.

"I left Team17 feeling I hadn't finished what I wanted to achieve, but for professional reasons I knew I had to walk away," Davidson said in the announcement. He left Team17 following the release of 1997's Worms 2. "I've returned to scratch the creative itch that's been bothering me for the last fourteen years."

Davidson explained that he'll be offering his "insight" to Revolution, "to ensure that the game balance is true to the spirit of the brand." Team17 also teases that he "has been working on a variety of new game ideas," so who knows, we might even see something original from Team17.

Worms Revolution is coming to PC and unspecified consoles between July and September.

Isn't that more or less what Reloaded was?

Nearly, it's still missing a lot of things, Worms 2 has bizarrely always been the most flexible, playable and fun of the worms games, they just can't figure out what they're doing. There's always something lacking.

Huh, really? I thought that was Armageddon

I think Armageddon added too much and it was too hard to remove some of it. The balance of Worms 2 was just ace.

For me everything after Worms World Party has had a different very wrong feeling to the physics.

It's got a nice additional selection of weapons, but i still remember it lacking a decent menu, Worms 2 let you do all sorts of cool things with your teams and it was fucking easy to do, I loosely remember Armageddon loosing the UI and a few other things.

they should make angry worms, it's like angry birds, but you use worms weapons to dislodge worms in a series of puzzles

They have already re-re-re-released that game like 14 times. I don't know where you have been that you missed it.

there hasnt been a version released since worms 2 that has "gotten it" like worms 2 did. there is always something missing, or just not as good.

I won't disagree with that point, but I still really don't want another 2D rehashed Worms game :/ They've beaten that to death at this point. I am hoping we'll actually get something fresh this time around.

They need to do something to change it up. New art style, fluid dynamics, physics (think things like landslides, trees falling, bridges collapsing). All they keep doing is making the same game over and over - slightly worse each time.

Agreed. It's really odd, I would've figured that the worms franchise, even in it's current state, is successful enough to fund more staff and help them create bigger, better features.

I could never get into Worms for some reason. Anybody remember Scorched Earth?? That game was a blast! 1991 baby!
