Minecraft studio made $80M since launch
by Steve Watts, Mar 26, 2012 11:30am PDTMinecraft is raking in the cash, presumably with some combination of wooden planks and sticks. Mojang Specifications' latest financial filings show that since the launch of the game, the company has made $80 million in revenues.
Financial Times reports that Mojang reached the milestone in the 15 months since Minecraft went on sale, in October 2010. For the sake of comparison, Rovio made $100 million in revenues last year. Founder Markus "Notch" Persson recently shared his $3.7 million dividend among the small company.
So far, Mojang has only published Minecraft, so its revenues almost completely to the PC and Pocket versions. The Xbox 360 version is due in May, and the studio is at work on other projects like Scrolls. The studio also recently took the wraps off of Minecraft-themed Legos.
