by Garnett Lee, Mar 23, 2012 11:00am PDTAfter a long look at Mass Effect 3 last week, Jeff, Jeff, Andrea, and Garnett turn their attentions to Journey, the upcoming Mists of Pandaria expansion for World of Warcraft, and other games. However, they cannot ignore the interesting turn the controversy over the ending of Mass Effect 3 took with BioWare co-founder Dr. Ray Muzyka directly addressing fans to promise them "clarity" and "closure" through new content the team will create. We also catch up on the announcement of an Epic Mickey sequel along the way to wrapping up with Finishing Moves.

if this is true then the writers at Bioware may have pulled off one of the greatest feats in video game history.

The concept is fine. They just haven't done a great job of
a) maximizing it's poignancy by EARNING it with pacing and build up
b) making sure everybody knew what the hell was happening.
If it is indoctrination, the war still needs to be fought, although one might argue that with Shepherd dead or dying, the war effort is basically over anyway.
More important to ME are the choices are the end of the game. If Shepherd is battling indoctrination, than these are false choices manifested by his psyche and the Reapers in a battle for self-control. The cycle continues as it always has once Shepherd is done.
If it's NOT indoctrination, than those choices have far-reaching consequences... just not for anybody alive at the moment. 50,000 years from now (or more), organic life will be advanced again, and the Reapers will come back. Based on Shepherd's choice, what happens at that time will be totally different - humanity may be doomed in one of two ways, or saved via a third choice.... a choice some might argues destroys their humanity anyway.
I want to know which one it is. This is why I'm fine with critiquing the ending. There are serious issues with the writing. I just think the concept and final outcome shouldn't be touched.
