Dark Souls PC release looking more likely

Dark Souls may be appearing on PC after all, if a recent ad on the back of a PC magazine is any indication.

Misery loves company, so fans have been campaigning for Dark Souls to appear on PC. Why should console gamers get all of the masochistic fun? As it turns out, the fan campaign may have worked, as it looks like a PC version could be coming after all.

The latest issue of PC Powerplay, an Australian magazine, teases their next issue with the all-too-familiar "YOU DIED" text. As Kotaku points out, it's "in the right font and everything."

Meanwhile, Namco is inviting Facebook likes for a reveal; could Dark Souls on PC will be this sudden announcement?

From Software head of R&D Masanori Takeuchi recently commented that the studio is aware of the demands for a PC version, but that decision is in the hands of the publisher. From Namco's perspective, a now 90,000 strong petition may be giving some indication that there's gold in those hills.

If this happens, this would be the first time I can remember a game won GOTY for me 2 years in a row on separate platforms.

I've heard that this game is awesome, being a die hard PC Gamer I don't know much about it other than it's supposed to be awesome.

Can someone tell me why it is? Without putting any spoilers in there?

Zero hand-holding. The combat is very precise and very unforgiving. The game will whoop your ass and you will (nearly) always know it was because you fucked up, not because the game pulled some bullshit move on you.

You will die a lot. 99% of those deaths will be your fault.

it's challenging in a really fun and unique way most games aren't these days, it's got a really complex and in-depth character building system (though it's not without its flaws), and the setting is amazing. also it has a really cool integrated multiplayer system.

It's this weird adversarial feeling with the game itself. It seems so brutally unfair and you feel like you start at such a handicap. As the game progresses you get better, and I mean you yourself. Sure you character improves, but the difference is in you shaking off the nerves and learning how to be careful all the damn time.

I think along with some painful frustration it also gives some of the best victory highs in any game.

Thanks guys, if it comes to PC I'll see how much cash I've got and what the reviews are like :D Sounds like it's my kind of game, nice and complex.

i think playing things like nethack and Dungeon Crawl: Stone Soup really helped prepare me for the kind of game Dark Souls is. In all three of those games, dying is a core part of the game, and it's expected. You just get used to lots of deaths.

Replace all enemies with Skeleton Wheels.
        All of them.

          Fuck that.

Although, I have to say, having a Skeleton Wheel or two would have made the Nito fight at least a little challenging. He was such a pushover. :(

not sure how I feel about this, I won't re-buy the game so it doesn't really matter to me, just hope they can somehow prevent people from somehow cheating (because it's so much easier on PC), would totally ruin the game experience...

I could care less about what chumps do in their own single player game, but it would bother me if it spilled over to PvP (which it would, of course). Can't people jump into your world and try to assassinate you at any time?

Should I play through Demon's Souls first?

they're both great games, with similar mechanics but a very different feel. I'd definitely recommend trying Demon's souls at some point. It's awesome. A lot shorter.

I never played Demon's Souls before and I had a blast. No need in my opinion.
