Report: Elder Scrolls MMO announcement coming in May

Over the years, there has been lots of speculation about a massively multiplayer online game set in the Elder Scrolls universe. A new report has surfaced claiming the project will be announced in May.

Citing three unnamed sources, Tom's Guide reports that Elder Scrolls Online will take place in the Second Era, or a full millennium before the events of Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. The report also said there will be three factions, represented by a lion, a dragon, and some sort of bird of prey.

Attempts to reach Bethesda for comment went unanswered.

It has been a poorly kept secret that Bethesda and ZeniMax were working on an MMO, as they have had numerous job postings on their site looking for MMO developer talent. A Fallout MMO was hoped, but the company only recently acquired the rights to an MMO back from Interplay.

Why? I can already imagine all the glitches.

Dark Souls MMO would be better.

They seem to be more competent about things with polishing up Skyrim, though, so that's not necessarily a bad deal.

Cautiously interested... Although I'd honestly prefer an Elder Scrolls 6.

Pay 15$ a month for essentially the same experience as Skyrim but now there's a text box in the lower left hand of your screen.

What a redundant idea. There are two main selling points to the Elder Scrolls games. Freedom to do what you want, and the modding. Both those things won't exist in an MMO.

I wouldn't go for it. MMOs usually need to be way more restrictive on exploration roaming, do not offer any way to introduce mods (except UI addons etc.) and generally will not let you play as you wish as balancing issues, itemization and levelling areas are introduced.

On the positive side: Finally a modern Elder Scroll without monster scaling?

I'm down with games I can play with a couple of friends that persist my gear and progress and that kind of thing. Doesn't have to be a huge scale MMO.

Another Elder Scrolls game with the typical single player gameplay, co-op, and co-op specific missions (2 to 4 players). That I'd buy. An MMO in any traditional sense of the term, no sell.

I remind you that saying that the game doesn't exist and is purely speculation counts as an announcement.
