With Guild Wars 2 now committed to launching in 2012, publisher NCsoft has unveiled the various editions it'll be available in, as well as pre-order bonuses. The most exciting thing you'll get for pre-ordering ArenaNet's subscription-free MMORPG is guaranteed access to all its beta weekend events, but sadly you can't buy it until next month. Pre-orders for Guild Wars 2's three editions will open on April 10. If you want something more than the $59.99 regular edition, there's a $79.99 Digital Deluxe edition with some minor in-game items, or a $149.99 Collector's Edition. The CE packs all the DDE goodies, plus a 10-inch miniature of Charr character Rytlock Brimstone, an art book, 'best of' soundtrack CD, five concept art prints, and a picture frame. As for the pre-order bonuses, on top of access to all beta weekend events, you'll get an in-game ring with minor stat boosts and three days of 'headstart' access before GW2 launches.

Digital deluxe doesn't seem worth it, all the digital items are single use.

$20 for that wolf elite skill and that hero's band??? ridiculously overpriced. i think i'll buy it anyway.

The hero's band comes with any preorder. not just the deluxe.

So $20 extra for an elite skill and a few single use items.

only 3 of the items are single use

Chalice of Glory = one time boost of Glory.... I'm thinkin 1000 or so

Golem Banker = 5 days of masive loot collecting

Tome of Influence = dont be the ONLY person in the guild NOT applying this boost to your guild

3 VERY worthwhile perks if ya ask me.....

also the Hero's Band is not a 1 time use :)

hero's band isn't part of the deluxe, check the website again. all pre-purchases come with the hero's band.

holy shit that's expensive. The original game's CE was way cheaper and came with a ton of stuff including an actual headset I used for a couple years. Hope that statue is worth it for whoever buys these.

Have there been any words about Steam yet? I'd like to preorder this for the beta weekends alone, but I'd also like to have it on Steam.

dont think it will be on Steam.. original GW wasnt on steam either.. and no other NC Soft products that i can think of have come onto Steam..

All Guild Wars games are on Steam, and so is everything AION which is also from NC Soft.

As a product that's going to rely on DLC for revenue after the initial purchase, I don't see any incentive for NC Soft to water down their sole source of additional profits by putting it on steam. And I'm sure that GW1's in game store already violates Steam's terms.

The incentive is a bigger market that is more likely to spend money because of how easy their system is.

I want that art book but would never take that stupid statue out of the box. Maybe I could pawn the statue on eBay or hope that the art book is released separately. The statue is likely a cheap plastic POS like the one that came with the Witcher 2.

This BS where companies are charging $59.00 for PC games really needs to stop.

To be fair, they're then running the servers after that for free. if anything i'd say they're entitled to charge 60 for a no montly fee MMO since they're going to have to support it.

Let's face it, games cost more to make than 10 years ago, take longer to produce, have larger teams, and the price of PC games hasn't increased in 10 years...inflation would dictate that games should cost at least $80, not $50 or $60.

Personally, I'll buy perhaps one or two games at full price per year, but then buy another 3-5 games on sale for less than $10 each, such as Dues Ex: HR. Games that have a multiplayer focus are best bought early on, as that's when the community is getting started/growing, and it's more enjoyable to play when people are doing all the early to late missions around the same time as you, because then you don't need to get an NPC to help you. I played Guild Wars when it first came out, great fun, lots of groups to play with and new guilds to join. I tried playing again perhaps a year ago, and NOBODY was in the early missions. Not a soul. At that point, the focus was PvP.

That's also not to mention that you typically get about 10-80+ hours out of each game, depending on the style, replayability, etc., but compare that to any movie you rent or when you go to a movie theater, and the hours of fun vs cost is phenomenal. 80 hours for $20 when I got divinity 2: Dragon Knight Saga, and it was one of my favorite games of all time. That's 4 hours per dollar. Not bad...

If you notice they only do it with big titles. It's just gouging at work. The $80 for a purely digital "collector's" edition is even worse imo. All that could have obviously been included with the $60 version.
