SimCity confirmed for PC in 2013
by Andrew Yoon, Mar 06, 2012 6:15pm PST"Sim City is back."
Well, that was a pretty fast reveal. At EA's "Game Changers" event at Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, EA confirmed rumors that a new SimCity will be coming to PC and Mac. And yes, it will be coming in 2013.
"This is a 3D SimCity," EA announced. The new SimCity will take advantage of a new proprietary "GlassBox Engine" developed by Maxis that will "equip players with the tools to play the most sophisticated simulation of its kind."
"We're building a simulation that really captures the world that we live in today," EA added at its announcement event. Online functionality will have you cooperating and competing against other SimCities for the first time in the franchise's history. Decisions you make in your city will affect other players' cities--especially as the virtual world will have to deal with the repercussions of limited natural resources.
Best of all: "You never know when a giant lizard might come around... and with our new physics engine, it will look spectacular."
A trailer revealed during the press conference simply called the game "SimCity," sans a number. Could this be a "reboot" of the franchise? [Update: Yes. EA calls this "a true rebirth of the franchise."]
