Electronic Arts is opening a new studio in Gothenburg. But where is Gothenburg, you ask? Sweden, home of DICE--the studio behind the Battlefield franchise and the Frostbite 2.0 engine.

The new studio will be focused on making "a new generation of games" on the Frostbite engine.

While the official announcement doesn't offer much else on what the Gothenburg studio is up to, an invitation to the studio's GDC happy hour says that the "game franchise and genre will be revealed after a candidate is under NDA." It seems likely that Gothenburg won't be working on a new game, but rather a sequel to one of EA's franchises. That doesn't really narrow down the possibilities, but it's all we have to go on for now.

To make a "new generation" of games you need a new generation of hardware. You could wait 2 more years for the new consoles or you could go PC. How about you go with PC for the next few years and see how well it goes, not like there would be any limitations.

Great they had to build a studio just so we can get some DLC for BF3. Shit is going to take forever.

I'm a huge fan of the way BF3 looks, so I say bring on more Frostbite games.

bf3 looks really nice on high/ultra but in many ways all it is visually is a generic miltary shooter. mirrors edge 2 coming on the same engine has me much more excited.

witcher 2 for example is technically/visually stunning because of the art of the world made possible by the engine. bf3 is a bit of a technical jerk off only.
