Minecraft has updated to version 1.2. It doubles the map height limit so you can build even bigger towers, adds the new "Jungle" biome, and brings cats, ocelots, and iron golems. The golems seem especially useful, since the update video shows them fighting on the behalf of the adventurers.

Other features in the update include improved AI and rare drops for the mobs, better double-door functionality with redstone, new items, and various other tweaks. You also might detect some love in the air as we enter spring, since villagers can have children if there's room in the village, and tame wolves can have puppies.

When you get the update, you'll notice that it's 1.2.2. Mojang Specifications quickly issued a minor update, since 1.2 nixed some tree types from the landscape. You can check out the 1.2 trailer below.

I'm liking the update so far.

Also, the company changed its name from Mojang Specifications to just Mojang (or Mojang AB, technically) quiet a while ago.

I really like the jungle biome. The green vines in caverns scaring the crap out of you because you think they're creepers is perfect.

I really wish Minecraft had some kind of story, like an RPG or something. Building shit with god mode just doesn't do it for me.

Build in survival mode, a bit more interesting but a lot more labor.

I've only ever played survival mode.

I have. Just think it would be better with something more.

Man, this game has come a long way since I was playing it regularly. The new world I started has a little village of NPC's walking around in it just over a hill from my start point. I have zombies knocking down my front door and scaring the shit out of me. I dug a spiral staircase in my basement for mining... and I bumped into an abandoned mineshaft! It was complete with support beams and tracks etc. I was slowly exploring this mineshaft mining some coal and iron ore... I can hear water in the distance... then I hear faint splashing. Something is moving over there but I can't tell what it is and it's creeping me out. I kind of forgot how great this game is... and it's actually a lot better than it used to be.

Yeah, I hope we either start a new server or update the old one... I've been wanting to get on a Shack server for a while now but the update broke that.
