The AI in Deus Ex, at least in the Demo, isn't so hot. Reposted from Blue's...

I'm sorry, I really like the demo, but the AI is just not hugely impressive. Beyond the combat tactics of the
enemies, which are impressive, the things that Scott mentions as his annoyances seem to have been
incorporated into the game. The classic FPS AI flaws are all there...one soldier walks past the corpse of his
buddy and thinks nothing of it, gunshots landing at a terrorists feet without making him react, being able to
use a very loud rifle to kill one soldier and having another one 50 feet away not react, etc etc etc. I like it
because it's fairly easy to win, even on Hard difficulty, but I get the feeling other people might be lured by the
promise of awesome AI, which I don't think is present...though maybe stuff has changed in between making
the demo and the game going gold. Or maybe all of the terrorists that you encounter in the demo are
recruited from Helen Keller University. I suppose it's a bit early to judge. I'll certainly buy the game, but I don't
think the AI is anything special. Then again, I don't think I've ever seen an FPS with particularly noteworthy AI,
so I'm probably not the best judge. This is on a P2 400, so I guess maybe it'll scale better with more powerful
CPU's...I guess I'll be able to tell when I get my 1ghz Athlon later this summer.
