Rumor: New Baldur's Gate teased

A mysterious Web site seems to tease a new Baldur's Gate title, but no official announcement has been made. Former BioWare designer Trent Oster, who co-founded a Beamdog, says an announcement is coming soon.

Baldur's Gate 2 came out over a decade ago, so the series seems due for a revival or at least an homage. A mysterious Web site appears to tease a new game in the series; it carries the series' skull image and several references to the lore, but no official announcement has been made.

The site BaldursGate.com launched yesterday featuring the familiar skull iconography and music from the original game. The site also quotes from the series: "The Lord of Murder shall perish, but in his doom he shall spawn a score of mortal progeny, chaos will be sown by their passage." Plus, Eurogamer points out that the source code of the site is packed with lore easter eggs.

GameBanshee received a statement from former BioWare designer Trent Oster, currently of Beamdog, who confirmed that an announcement is forthcoming.

So it appears that Beamdog is working on a Baldur's Gate something, but don't pin your hopes on Baldur's Gate 3. Beamdog previously worked with Interplay on an HD re-release of MDK2, so it could simply be a revamp of one of the classic titles.

Trent wasn't a designer, not sure why people keep posting this. He was one of the founders of BioWare and was the project director on NWN.

Despite the general hate and fear this subject is drawing up, I am hoping to see another installment in the Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance series. They're solid console hack-n-slash games, and number 2 ended on a major cliffhanger.

I don't mind the action-RPG'rs getting theirs, but I'd be pretty disappointed if it was a dark alliance game after that website alluding to the originals.

From the source code on the new webpage (as posted by RPS):

      < -- February 28, 2012 -->
< -- Shadowy Figure- Raise Dead : Infinity Engine -->

< -- For years, I clung to the memory of it. Then the memory of the memory. -->

< -- And then... it returned. Better than it was before. -->

< -- Pore over the tapestries and works of art hanging from our walls if you wish, Child of Bhaal... perhaps you will find a clue. But patience, ah... patience would reveal it all. -->

      Sounds like an HD remake?

I'd be ok with that. I don't want a sequel that will add onto the story and the original games are still being sold so even if they fuck it up at least the original games are still around.

an HD remake is the only thing that I would not make melodramatic posts about on the shack. but it had better be a real, honest remake. not some kind of dumbed down simplified XBLA bullshit with modern RPG things, because modern RPGs are just third person action games and I dont want that in my BG. just give me all the original mechanics, clean it up a bit and streamline the interface and improve the graphics.

This is it Bioware. You can heal our relationship, all is forgiven, even DA2...

... or you can hurt me like I've never been hurt before.

Pretty easy to tell it's not going to be BioWare.

          ... still Bioware's last chance.

If they fuck this up, I.. might not buy the PC version of Mass Effect 1 & 2 and eventually stop playing SWTOR.. sometime after it goes f2p... in two months...

Yes, and if Diablo III doesn't rock I'm going to stop playing WoW and Skyrim.

Don't see the Skyrim connection, but Blizzard hasn't really taken a shit on their reputation in the same way that Bioware has.

If the Avengers movie sucks, I'm boycotting the next Call of Duty game.

          The mmo basically is kotor3.

It even wraps up that storyline.

it does? hmmm. I got to 40 on one and like 25 on another and I didn't see much. I did the revanite line on my sith dude and that was pretty cool... sorta... but too short. :(

when does it really get back into the KOTOR framework of malachor 5 and more revan and more importantly HK-47 :(

oh man going through his companion dialogs in kotor2... hilariousssssss.

Well, Satele Shan is the child of Revan & Bastila.

SWTOR Spoilers : On the Republic side, you break Revan out of The Maelstrom (Taral V & Maelstrom Prison flashpoints) where he's been held by the Sith Emperor for three centuries. Revan then leads a force to take control of the Foundry, but is stopped by a Sith strike force (Boarding Party & The Foundry). Whether he survived or not is unknown.

The history of Revan & others is strewn throughout the worlds in various quests & lore points, plus character's back stories.

I hope if its a remake or new addition that the coop is kept intact from the old games. I really enjoyed playing BG games with buddies. Nothing better than long epic RPG sessions filled with booze and take out foods.
