The PlayStation Network is going down for 14 hours of particularly disruptive scheduled maintenance on Thursday, which'll leave everyone unable to use their Sony doodads for anything that requires being signed into PSN--including online multiplayer.

"Unlike typical maintenance events, consumers who are already signed-in to PSN will be signed-out, and consumers will be unable to sign in for the duration of the maintenance window," Sony explains. "During this time, users won't be able to access the PlayStation Store, PlayStation Home, Account Management or play online."

The maintenance is due to begin at 8am Pacific on Thursday, March 1, and run until around 10pm Pacific. Both the North American and European branches of PSN will be affected.

While Sony doesn't give a reason for the downtime, presumably it's something rather pressing if the company's willing to knock everyone offline for a day so soon after the launch of the Vita.

Any idea if Netflix will work? The last few maintenance periods on the PSN didn't disrupt netflix streaming, but maybe it will this time?
