Bethesda hiring 'future generation console programmer'

Bethesda Game Studios is hiring a programmer for an unannounced game on "future generation consoles."

Bethesda Game Studios is hiring a programmer for "future generation consoles." Though the job listing is left fairly vague, it does confirm that yet another developer is starting to plan ahead for consoles that have yet to be announced.

The job listing is for a specific project, which Bethesda and parent company ZeniMax Media calls an "unannounced game." It asks for experience programming and optimizing for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and calls DirectX 11 experience a plus.

We've seen drips and rumors of the next Xbox coming, but less so for the next PlayStation iteration. Still, the specs of the two will probably be reasonably similar, so as long as Bethesda has an outline of one it could be starting development for a game that will appear on both. Now all that's left is for Microsoft and Sony to actually announce them.

I'd love to see a sci-fi setting that was more akin to say, old school Star Trek with a huge variety of worlds and different things going on in them, rather than one big villain trying to destroy everything.

yeah Fallout really doesn't work outside the US setting. they could put the Fallout name on it but i have a hard time believing it would feel like Fallout.

It would actually be interesting if they turned the series into a collaborative one with the Ex-Black Isle (AKA Obsidian). The numbered series now following an East Coast based Westward expansion, which which will run into the already started Eastward expansion started by Black Isle 15 years ago.

I will accept it not being Fallout 4 if they've acquired the Shadowrun IP and are building that instead.

I think a lot of problems come from the Gamebryo engine, I'd hope they get rid of it completely. But likely they will just upgrade what they already have.

Yeah, there are definite engine side issues, but it's also very easy to break quests and the AI/scripting sometimes is beyond retarded. On Friday I was supposed to follow a guy up some stairs to a library and he got stuck in the middle of the staircase. I fus roh dah'ed him to the top and it still didn't trigger so I had to go back 2 saves and try again. He still got stuck in the same place so I had to keep running into him to get him to go up the stairs.

Console programmer? Wouldn't that be a dropout PC programmer? Basically they want someone to take everything that makes a great PC game, fuck up the UI, compress and shrink down the textures so they look like ass on a 55" screen, and assign multiple actions to one button, and sell it at an inflated price.

No generally it means a programmer with solid understanding of good programming practices as well as low level optimization techniques. It usually means experienced and highly desirable in the games industry..

        Nice troll though.
