You've run out of new stories to read, listened to the latest episode of Weekend Confirmed, and still want more Shacknews? While these threads have expired, you can join thousands of other gamers as we discuss everything from videogame industry news to politics in the Chatty. Make sure you log-in and check your filters if you can't see the following:

MercFox1 wants to know which games you are looking forward to in 2012. Diablo 3?, Max Payne 3? Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition? Videogame machine valcan_s wants them all.

creeping-death wants to have a final verdict on the PC version of The Darkness II, with a particular interest in the game's adjustable field of view (FOV) settings. Is adjustable field of view a personal preference, or should it be included in every title? Check out the thread to see the discussion!

Koral06 wants to know about quality assurance and bug testing in video game development after experiencing glitches in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Shackers discuss the minutia of the industry, while VenDrake and eonix give developer perspectives.

The whole Warp Zone section seems... questionable. I mean I see what you guys are trying to do there, but does an anecdote about farting in a drive-through really belong on the front page of a video game news site? It was a hilarious post but honestly

My feeling is you'd be more likely to attract interest by focusing on informative or at least interesting posts. Stuff like the developer perspectives on testing. Maybe include excerpts in the article so the reader only has to follow a link if they want to comment? Dunno.

A lot of what gives chatty it's character is the off-kilter stuff. Particularly since as a lot of us are getting older, gaming takes a back seat to family, work, and so on.

It's sort of one of those things where you can choose to turn off your filters to ignore certain threads, or just don't read that portion of the article.

That said, I do agree. It's going to take some work to flesh this type of thing out. Gaming discussions and interesting threads will take priority, so if there is a particular week (read E3) with a lot more discussion than usual, Warp Zone may take a week or two off.

I dunno, I think it's a good idea. If you're expressly trying to get new people to join the chatty proper, then you need to show a cross section of the posts on any given day.

They're already reading a shacknews article, so they've probably already got the video game thing covered. What differentiates us is the other sorts of posts that go on around the video game discussions, and it's pretty unique to us since it's not shunted to an off-topic subforum.

If we can get new people who are cool and would participate in all aspects of the chatty, why would you be against that? (Not you Tyler, just speaking in general)

Greg actually looked into this, since it was brought up a few times before. The redesign changed the way FP/ER are handled in our CMS, so an unfortunate side effect is that all of the older stuff got indexed. New chatty posts aren't indexed. Only comments in front page articles are indexed.

If that's mistaken, please let me know so I can discuss it more with Greg.

This week in Chatty: Events of 2002.

wunderbred made another attempt to end his Chatty tenure, posting a link to a self-absorbed pretentious thanks.txt file containing sentimentalized regards to practically everyone he ever met. Could he actually be serious this time? Stay tuned next week where he'll likely meet another B-rate high school floozie and keep us updated at an alarmingly high rate for the pre-Smartphone era!

To those complaining: What's the big deal? sTeve and Marteen used to post thread links in FP and ER occasionally, it didn't ruin anything (and sometimes resulted in hilarity ensuing).

I think this could be pretty cool and like you say, it could get some new blood into the chatty. (Hopefully good new blood.) The one thing I'd suggest you be careful of is "outing" developers here. Knowing that there are some developers here is fine, and maybe knowing that so-and-so is a developer is fine, but a lot of developers here would not want to post or would censor their posts carefully if they thought there was a chance that what they say would end up on the front page of a gaming news site.

Most of these people can't speak for their employer in any kind of official capacity (dahanese and OverloadUT are notable exceptions) and if their comments got too public it could come back to them in a bad way. I just don't want to see what happened to Kentor happen to anyone else. Those of us who have been here for a while know people here that work at some of the largest studios and we appreciate the things they can occasionally tell us about but I think that is usually done with some discretion. Anyway, I'll stop. I'm sure you understand my point.

You guys are a pretty intelligent bunch (except [fry] who always seems consumed by sex ;) and any way we can get more comments and interaction with the site, the better. Chatty was formed because you all liked Shack news at one time. So let's re-integrate the bunch as much as possible.

And full credit to Tyler for this idea.
