Sony is making yet another one of its multiplayer games "free-to-play." Next week, the PlayStation Store will feature a free trial of Killzone 3's multiplayer mode. Released as a standalone app, the PSN download will include "all the maps" from Guerrilla's shooter, and will be playable up until an undisclosed level cap.

After reaching the level cap, you'll be able to download the entire multiplayer mode for $14.99. However, if you want to get both the single player campaign and multiplayer mode, you'll have to pick up the Blu-ray disc at a retail store, the PlayStation Blogcast (via Push Square) notes.

Sony previously experimented with a F2P model with MAG, similarly offering free play until a level cap. However, unlike that offer, this will be available to all PS3 owners--not just Plus subscribers.

Oh wow. Hell yeah! This is something they should do with EVERY multiplayer game. It was what Metal Gear Online should have done, and never did. God damn.

I don't think a larger audience, able to come in for free, would have tolerated all the bugs MGO had.
