Were you surprised when you couldn't access the multiplayer portion of the Mass Effect 3 demo? "Early access" to the online co-op was restricted to those that redeemed an online pass for Battlefield 3. That gate has been torn down, and online multiplayer is now freely accessible on all platforms.

Even players on Xbox 360 without Gold subscriptions will be able to try the multiplayer offering. The demo includes a limited Gold trial.

While the demo will give you a taste of the game's new co-op mode, don't get too attached to your created character. "No data from the Multiplayer or Single Player demo carries into the full game," BioWare confirmed via Twitter.

Mass Effect 3 will be available on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on March 6th.

Played it last night. It's okay. Nothing ground breaking. Basically feels like Horde mode, which is basically Ghost Recon co-op.

I was kind of disappointed there weren't any versus modes. I can't really see myself grinding ranks in a survival coop mode to unlock stuff in single player, which is how I understand this is supposed to work. It'll make a decent distraction for a week or two though, I guess.

It doesn't unlock any content in Single Player as far as I know. It just ups your battle readiness. So playing a lot of coop and not doing a lot of side stuff in single player will still get you the best ending.

Played last night. Although I'm interested to see how multiplayer will impact my "readiness", I don't think I'll be playing the multiplayer mode.

I thought MP was ok. Assuming the campaign is at least on par with ME2, it will be a very nice side feature to a primarily SP game.

I'll probably play it enough to eventually unlock everything. Few things I was disappointed by though. Mainly that the loadouts are too rigid, not letting you pick a class/race combination you like. I hit bugs with movement and camera becoming unhinged too.

The cover/running/evade mechanic is also a bit imprecise on MP.

Multiplayer or no, this IS a Mass Effect game...

certainly entertaining for just being a demo. More Mass Effect stuff till ME3 drops doesn't hurt! Got to around level 13 with a soldier.

how does the unlocks work with different races?

I like it, too. Will definitely spend some time in MP when the game releases.
