Didn't firmware 4.10 just come out? Indeed, it did. But if you miss watching a creeping progression bar, you're in luck. Sony has released yet another incremental update. And it's one of those fun optional updates.

What the update provides is, once again, incredibly vague. According to the patch notes, the update "improves certain aspects of system software." That's a similar line Sony's been using for most of its incremental updates.

Oddly, reports suggest that while this update is optional in the US, it is mandatory in other parts of the world. Don't you feel special?

Its a perk, I didn't subscribe to PSN+ Just for the ease of updating, I am merely pointing out that it is a great feature.

Are there any other perks? I've not really looked into it but they've done a dreadful job of convincing me it's worth paying for.

I enjoy the free games, even if they aren't always stellar titles. The discounts are nice too.

My list of 'free' games is Burnout Paradise, Castle Crashers, Final Fantasy 5, Costume Quest All the crash bandicoot games (PS1) and I think far cry 2 is free this week but yet to check. I think there's a few more but can't recall off the top of my head. Note I say 'free' due to when your sub is up they become unplayable but I have no interest in cancelling anytime soon.

What I have been really enjoying in the extra beta privileges that come with it, I’m currently enjoying the new Starhawk beta and recently finished with the Gotham City impostors and resistance 3 online beta’s.

Errm the discounts are also not too savage I saved myself a few quid on Renegade ops.

As previously mention you get the auto patch feature that will do it all behind the scenes so when there’s a new patch you should log on to find its already togo.

Online game save storage is really nice as it lets me take my SP saves anywhere I log on (which also auto-update).

it's a perk for getting around their horrible, time consuming patching procedure. it's silly that you have to pay for this.

For patching? Xbox updates are done about 4 times a year and take about 10 minutes to do. For game patches they take about 1 min vs the 20+ on the ps3.

So you still have to sit and wait for it to download and patch? That's what im trying to get at, not wether it's done 4 or 10 times a year.

the point is that nobody cares about this feature on the xbox because it isn't a hassle to update the xbox and takes about the amount of time it takes to go grab a drink from the fridge

yeah the 2x per year major updates take like 5 minutes. for games maybe 30 seconds if that. this is in comparison to typical 30-60 minute sony updates.

Haha holy shit I just remembered.. you guys pay a yearly sub for Xbox!!! I'd be pissed if it wasn't that fast for £50 a year.

And there you guys are railing on me because 'it's silly that you have to pay for this' when infact if your on Xbox you already do!.

yes, because everyone with an xbox has to pay for xbox live.

I do not own a xbox, if you read the comments rather than just jumping on me about the slightest bit of fanboyism then you would of seen that.

I wasn't aware that you have different subs nor did I know you get the same service regardless (which is excellant).

But at the end of the day what keeps the microsoft servers running faster than the Sony servers would be the monthly subs that millions of Xbox owners pay right?

Or are they naturally superior?! due to microsoft running the show?

So thats my point, you guys pay for quicker downloads and I pay for a service that auto downloads and patches all my games without me having todo anything (simple right?), plus it's cheaper than a year of Xbox gold, I got 15months for £35-40. So imho I think PSN+ is better value for money.

                      COME AT ME BRO's.

This isn't just about bandwidth. The firmware updates download quick enough. Sony's patching system is just poorly designed. The whole XMB is just ridiculous when it comes to installing downloaded items. Why do I need to actually install a game after downloading it from the PSN? Can't it install on the fly while downloading or just automatically install it after the download is completed?

I think a fair amount of it is down to bandwidth also wether your on wifi or not is a huge factor as the PS3 wifi cards are crap (more so with the fat PS3's).

But your idea to implement the install whilst downloading is a great idea and maybe one that should be acted upon. We all know that the guys at Sony aren't the greatest of tech wizzards as per the account scandle last year, where if you compare it with microsoft's experiance in the patching industry then they trump Sony by a longway.

Shame that the PSN+ feature of auto-download is strictly for the PSN+ user's because it really is great.

I don't know how you guys are getting 30-60 minutes for an update. I don't live in a big city or anything, my updates only take a few minutes. Are you on wireless?

Seriously. Every time I launch Netflix it never fails.

        A system update is required.

        Every. Time.

Yep, and the worst is when you forget your netflix password and are convenienced with having to track down the email address you subscribed from, the password and the fact that if you get it wrong with the little controller keyboard, it wipes both, email address and password...IIRC. Aggravating as all hell.

My favourite is how you can't play any game online unless you update your PS3 firmware.
