Report: Unreal Engine 4 to be revealed in 2012
by Steve Watts, Feb 10, 2012 12:30pm PSTEpic Games is working on Unreal Engine 4, and may even be ready to debut it this year, according to Epic vice president Mark Rein.
A first look at the engine this year would come well ahead of a planned 2014 launch for the updated tech. However, Epic's Mike Capps said he wanted UE4 to be ready day one of the next console generation.
"People are going to be shocked later this year when they see Unreal Engine 4 and how much more profound an effect it will have," Rein told G4. He didn't give more detail on when we could expect it, but a trade show like E3 seems the most likely candidate.
By showcasing a UE4 tech demo this year, it will give Epic ample time to show off the engine's new features for interested third parties. Shacknews has contacted Epic Games regarding the report, and will update as more information becomes available.

If you want to argue about how Epic feels about PC then talking about the quality of Unrealengine on PC is not the way (because there's plenty of issues with UE3 on PC).
If you did want to make the argument that Epic cares about PC, then you might point to Mike Capps mumbling something a little while back about how cool it is to make PC games: http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Gamescom-Mike-Capps-PC-Gaming-Gears-of-War-Unreal-Tournament,13235.html little was heard of that since, but it is definitely a stronger argument about Epic's attitude towards PC gaming than this thing you're doing here where you're asking people to ignore that Sweeney is a senior member of Epic and that when he gives a talk or an interview his opinion of the PC as a platform reflects that of Epic's general attitude, simply because he is not a game designer but an engineer. Especially when that fits in with how other people like Cliffy and Rein talk about the PC. That's just a very long stretch Fred.
