EA has just announced Mass Effect Infiltrator for iOS, a companion app that will help boost your "Galactic Readiness" in Mass Effect 3. Increased readiness will help enable players get the best ending possible in the trilogy's finale.

"Take the all-out galactic war in Mass Effect 3 on-the-go with Infiltrator, a fully-featured iOS third-person shooter showcasing stunning graphics and authentic weapons and powers from the Mass Effect series," a PR pamphlet acquired at an EA event describes.

"Inspired by the deep and immersive Mass Effect 3 universe, in Infiltrator players will help to free prisoners from a hostile Cerberus base and will receive rewards for collecting evidence of Cerberus' crimes along the way. Every completed rescue and intelligence discovery in Infiltrator will increase a player's Galactic Readiness rating directly through the Galaxy at War system in Mass Effect 3."

The game will be available on iPod Touch, iPhone, and iPad "soon." In addition to increasing galactic readiness, the iOS game will also unlock "exclusive weaponry" for use in the main game.

What's bullshit about it? It's not required for anything in ME3 and not having it is not going to adversely affect your enjoyment of ME3. Yet it allows for those people who want to experience the richness of the Mass Effect universe while on the go to do just that.

The more that things external to the base game that also affect the base game are accepted, the greater the chance of them being required or standard for certain aspects in future titles becomes.

It's no different that retailer specific pre-order exclusives or demos that offer unique armor like amalur. That stuff isn't required but how do you experience the richness of the universe (lol) when it's fragmented up and spread out all over the place when you can't possibly access all of it? It used to be easy, with Mass Effect you just played the game. Then it changed with ME2 and now it's even worse with ME3.

If it was the codex on iOS and it didn't affect your progress in ME3 that would be something I could get behind. That would let you experience the richness of the Mass Effect universe (lol) on the go.

it is, because you are MISSING SOMETHING. there is dev time actually going towards fragmenting the content.

            that is FUCKING STUPID

Yeah, I'm sure all those devs from Iron Monkey Studios would've been able to contribute a lot to ME3 otherwise.

Did iron monkey studios create the exclusive weapons for ME3 that I won't be able to use because I don't own a fucking iPhone?

You're right, I'm sure they could've added six more companions and their associated missions/storylines if only Joe in the art department wasn't too busy palette shifting weapon skins.

And how can you say for certain it won't adversely affect vanilla ME3? It says right in the description it will boost your galactic readiness and help enable access to the best possible ending.

What if in accounting for all this Facebook and iOS and MP garbage that helps your rating, it's harder to be ready for that good ending by playing ME3 alone? Or you have to grind out a lot of mindless shit because they were expecting those boosts from elsewhere?

First you're upset about not being able to play the game enough because the content is spread out all over the place
Now you're upset at having to play the game too much

I can't keep up with all this flip-flopping.

what can you keep up with?

                are you really this dense?

the iOS game will also unlock "exclusive weaponry" for use in the main game.

                please pay attention to SOMETHING

Every time I read one of these articles I think "there's no fucking way they could possible add more DLC to this game" and then the next week they find another bullshit way to sell DLC.

I'm guessing next week they'll announce that you can unlock DLC by buying Doritos or Mountain Dew.

Well, I for one won't be partaking in any of this multiplayer Galaxy at War bullshit. Now it's been confirmed it's TOTALLY optional, I can forget about it and stick to SSF4AE / SC2 or CS:GO (soon!) for my multiplayer.

Bring on the quiet hours of single player gaming! Without bullshit gimmicks!
