Skylanders Giants announced, features bigger figures
by Steve Watts, Feb 07, 2012 7:30am PSTActivision announced Skylanders Giants today, following rumors sparked by domain registrations. The new game will add twenty more figures to the line-up, including the titular "Giants" and figures that light up. Figures from the existing Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure will be compatible as well.
Of the twenty figures, eight will be the larger-scaled "Giants" with larger dimensions both as figures and in the game. Eight other new figures will be regular-sized. Some of the figures will also light up when near the "Portal" accessory, and those include special in-game benefits. Current Skylanders can be brought in with all their current levels and abilities intact. The game also promises more options for Battle Mode, closer integration with the online "Spyro's Universe" world, and enhanced Elemental Zones and Hero challenges.
Activision will be showing off the toys at the International Toy Fair in New York between February 12-15. The game is set to launch this year for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, and unnamed handheld and mobile devices -- presumably the 3DS will be one, and the Vita might get its own version too. The game will cost $69.99 for its starter pack, like its predecessor. A representative confirmed to Shacknews that current players can use their existing Portal accessory, and a cheaper (Portal-less) SKU will be available.
