Star Wars: The Old Republic was quite an expensive endeavor for Electronic Arts, with one report pegging development costs of over $200 million (and counting). EA must be relieved to announce that The Old Republic has sold through more than 2 million units, and has retained 1.7 million active subscribers. That's a lot more than the "1 million customers" needed to make the game profitable.

Of course, every MMO needs a clear path forward to continue to be successful. That's where fans will come in. In addition to announcing their financials, Electronic Arts has also announced the first ever "Guild Summit" for the game. To be held in Austin in March, "guild leaders from around the world will gather together to discuss the state of the game with the developers from BioWare Austin."

According to the announcement, "the goal of the summit is to facilitate an open discussion between guild leaders and the game design team." The invite-only event will take place from March 4th through the 6th at the DoubleTree Hotel. While many have already received their invites, you can apply for a chance on The Old Republic website.

they're not going to keep these numbers if the game is as buggy and glitchy as it is right now. if you log in to the forum, there are about 1.7 million users complaining about bugs that never get fixed and every patch introduces more and more of them... some of them I encountered myself and that's why i cancelled the subscription until they make the game decently playable.

On a related note, this whole "80-200 million" budget is overemphasized: most of it went towards voice actors (which nearly everyone skips anyways) and the salaries of the people who worked on the game. This is a FREE game engine so there were no licensing fees even!

It boggles my mind how a game of such scale could turn out to be as run-of-the-mills and buggy as it has.....

I haven't run into any bugs other than a few minor ones.. and this has been one of the smoothest MMO launches I've played in. Far better than WoW, CoH, War, Aion, STO and maybe even Rift. Hell, my favorite MMO ever, DAoC, didn't even have content for the last ten levels for at least the first six months, let alone an end game! Anyone that whines about max level stuff 39 days after the game launches doesn't understand the development and support process of a MMO.

Been playing the game now since beta, pre-launch and up to present day and the game runs like butter flowing off the side of a pancake for me. I have no idea what game breaking bugs you all are referring to, but I suspect it has to do with lack of PC knowledge. And have you stopped to read those 1.7 million forums posters? Do it for the lolz, seriously they are freakin idiots. I get tears in my eyes from rofling so much over some of the posts made at the complete lack of anything tangible to knowledge and/ or common sense. I wouldn't base any argument off mmo forums users, they attract the sludge moved along by the no child left behind policy.

I am, OTOH, getting rather bored of the game already, and will kill off the sub this month if no new substantial content is added. Crafting and HM heroics are boring, which is not a downfall of swtor, its a downfall of any MMO with an endpoint. Its been a great ride, its time to move on.

Most of it did not go to the voice actors. I think where they are going to lose people is the content, or lack thereof.
