The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Creation Kit, Workshop shown off

Bethesda is at work on the Creation Kit and Skyrim Workshop for modders, and has released a video and blog entry that teases some of its new features.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is soon getting its "Creation Kit," and Bethesda has outlined some of its features with a new video. Chief among the points is Steam Workshop integration, which will let fans find and download mods quickly and easily.

Once the free Creation Kit and Skyrim Workshop launch, you'll be able to browse for the highest rated mods, subscribe, rate mods and post feedback. Subscribed mods will automatically download updates. If you'd rather browse mod sites like Skyrim Nexus, Bethesda says you can, and has even made it easier by allowing INI files to be packaged into the mods.

If you're a content creator, you can look forward to more powerful tools for dialogue, action scripting for multiple NPCs, and dynamic shadows when placing assets. The Bethesda Blog doesn't give a launch date for the creation kit launch, but it's inviting feedback based on what they've shown off.

These tools will apply only to the PC version, of course, but Bethesda says it will keep working on ways to expand mod support, including "hopefully" bringing them to consoles.

Check out the Creation Kit and Skyrim Workshop preview video below.

That's really cool. It makes me want to start my own mod team and crank out content because of how seamlessly it has been integrated with STEAM.

So Nexus will pretty much be nothing but porn mods then?

Only if you can actually convince the whole modding community to switch over to using this instead of Nexus.

Yah this is very true... SkyrimNexus has a pretty decent setup already.

Why does shack insist on using their crappy Shackvideo when the original source is youtube? I select 720p, and it has clearly been resampled/recompressed from the original source - resulting in lower quality.

modding on this game engine has been phenomenal since morrowind. even if your totally new to it you can load it up and start doing little silly things like making new gear with custom stats and whatnot, with little effort. its fully capable of just dorking around, and high grade professional quality modding all in the same package. in a way it reminds me of Build, in an ease of use sort of way.

Thank god it has a dialogue editor. I wasn't going to bother with it unless it had something like Fallout New Vegas's editor.

You guys think Steam Workshop will kick off a rise in games that just put out a basic framework and let the fan base/mods fill in the gameplay, models, textures, etc.?
