The Ace Attorney series is about to jump from the DS to the movie theater. Prolific Japanese director Takashi Miike, who worked on 13 Assassins, Sukiyaki Western: Django, and Ichi the Killer, is in charge of bringing Capcom's big-haired lawyer to the big screen.

The 135 minute long affair covers all five cases of the first game and will be receiving a worldwide release.

Speaking at International Film Festival Rotterdam, Miike told audience members about trying to create a film that would cater to avid fans and those that had never heard of Phoenix Wright. According to TwitchFilm, the end result is a "love-it or hate-it affair," like many of Miike's previous films.

Here's a Japanese trailer for the movie (via CVG):

MAybe not the best short summary: it's more a factor that the Japanese movie (which releases in a few weeks there) is slated for international distribution with subs/dubs.

And yet they won't bring over Investigations 2 and won't confirm the new games get US release...

AA5 was just announced, so I'm not expecting news on that. Level5 is responsible for any importing of PLxAA, but this was the top request for localization in a poll they did about 6 months back.

I think the article on Twitchfilm is mistaken as the 5th case in AA1 is a standalone case that was created for the DS release. All the pay off in the story is done in the 4th case as in the original gba release so it would seem weird to go through that and then onto a 5th case that was unrelated to the other 4.

Yea, most are expecting that the movie will primarily focus on cases 1,2 and 4 of the first game. (The Steel Samauri one is mostly unrelated to those). It establishes who Phoenix, Mia, Maya, and Edgeworth are, and are a reasonably resolved plot unto themselves.

If anything, it could just be on case 4 flashing back to the key points of 1 and 2 to establish the characters. Mind you, there's hints that they've loaded a few other characters for possible future movies.

Because that prop is part of case 4. They just have to establish that SS is a popular television show/character and that's all that's important from case 3.

yeah I was really bummed with AA2 when they didn't include any DS specific cases. AA2 was utterly boring, turned me off to the series..did it pick up with any of the other ones?

I've played through all the ones with english translations, and yes - definitely check out Investigations as well; it's fun to see things from the prosecutors side, though you end up still playing defense a bit.

I think it was pretty good, and very faithful to the comics.

The reveal of the little old Fixer dude was just as good in the movie as in the manga!

The film actually looks to be pretty faithful - if you go through the trailer scene by scene and you're familiar with the first game you'll recognize background characters, sets, etc.
