Report: Final Fantasy XIII-2 getting Lightning as DLC

A Famitsu report claims that Lightning will be available as DLC for Final Fantasy XIII-2. The popular character will join the party after being beaten in the Coliseum.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 focuses on Serah's search for her missing sister, Lightning. The lead character of the first game plays a smaller role in the sequel, but DLC will reportedly allow players to recruit her. The add-on content will potentially add story revelations as well.

The latest issue of Famitsu (via Andriasang) reports that Lightning is set to appear in the Coliseum. If you can take her down, she'll join as a party member. Square Enix also reportedly plans to release story episodes for Lightning. This is part of a plan to expand the plot in a variety of ways, including novelizations.

Other possible DLC or novels include Coliseum battles against classic Final Fantasy bosses, and stories revolving around Sazh and his son, and the shop owner Chocolina. This echoes earlier hints regarding Sazh appearing in post-release content.

Because Final Fantasy XIII-2 has already released in Japan, it's no surprise that Square Enix is already announcing its DLC plans for the game. While no announcements have been made for the US, it seems likely that this content will come to our shores eventually.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 will be available on PS3 and Xbox 360 on January 31st.

sorry that came off trolling. All through the previews I keep hearing people asking 'oh where's lightning, oh he's missing' and come to find out, this 'popular' character that was in the first game is now DLC..just thought that was pretty funny/sad

I lol'd too, but for different reasons. The main trailer that's showing everywhere prominently features Lightning...I figured she was the main protagonist. :/

This is the first core FF game since...the first one, maybe, that I don't have any real intention to play. Yeah, maybe literally since the first game on the NES, this might be the one that I don't get, excepting the MMOs. Just never clicked with XIII and I haven't seen that they're doing a huge amount of cool stuff here to make up for it.

Theres a demo up, you could try it out. I downloaded it the other day, it started off really slow with a terrible boss fight but then let you run around a hub / town thing and learn about recruiting monsters as party members as well as a bunch more combat. I came away fairly excited for it.

I don't see a demo on the PS3...is it Xbox exclusive? I don't have Xbox Gold or whatever it is.

This is the first one I'm not buying at launch since 7, but that's only because I have no working console and it makes me very sad.

I really want to play it though.

I think devs/publishers should stop announcing DLC before the game is even launched.

Just a little over a week longer, and it would have been out everywhere. I'm just saying that they're tossing out a spoiler here.

Two thinks I won't complain about that trailer. I REALLY like the music in the trailer....and it looks like armor affects the look of character models.

Other than that, other party members being pretty much a Pokemon in this is fucking lame.

Will it be packed-in with action figures?
