Final Fantasy Dimensions trademark registered

A new Square Enix trademark hints at a possible 3DS release: Final Fantasy Dimensions.

With Final Fantasy XIII-2 being readied for release, what's the next step for Square Enix's never-ending RPG franchise? Final Fantasy Versus XIII is still in the works, and Final Fantasy Type-0 has yet to make it Stateside. Final Fantasy XIV will be getting overhauled later this year, as well.

But what if that isn't enough Final Fantasy to sate the most ardent Square Enix fan's appetite? Well, it appears Square Enix has plans for yet another spin-off series.

Siliconera discovered a new trademark for "Final Fantasy Dimensions." The trademark was filed in Japan for use with "video games and related media in Europe." The site postulates that this could be a Westernized title for Bravely Default: Flying Fairy, a 3DS RPG that has yet to be announced for Western release.

Given the "Dimensions" subtitle, it seems likely that this title will apply to a 3DS game. Bravely Default's gameplay is supposedly similar to that of Final Fantasy V, so a Final Fantasy rebranding would not only make sense, but help sales as well.

After watching the Japanese trailer, your interest mus be piqued, right? Imagine how much more you'd be interested if this game weren't called Bravely Default: Flying Fairy.

That is actually pretty cool. Though it doesn't say much about the game itself.

Despite the expectedly terrible titles, the game itself looks really promising. I'll be keeping an eye for it.

Honestly... I think after they finish their current batch of games... they should just focus all of their energy on making a truly epic single player Final Fantasy 15 which is amazing in every way and doesn't suck. And just drop all these stupid side projects and side stories etc which just dilute the brand, confuse people, tend to suck and make it difficult for new people to come into the series.

It's kind of like the state of comic books right now... there have to be about 20 different X-Men related titles out there now. I'm a pretty big X-Men fan and followed the series for about 15 years at least. Even for me it was difficult to choose a book to follow and get caught up on things. I can only imagine how confusing it must be for newcomers. It just seems like it would be so much easier for the developers and the audience to follow a single title followed by a whole number.
