Zynga has continued its spending spree, snatching up four mobile developers over the last few months. Those include Gamedoctors, Page44 Studios, HipLogic, and AstroApe. Zynga declined to discuss the terms of the various deals, including the money that changed hands.

Reuters reports that the studios span cities all across the US and the world, with a wide swath of developed titles. Gamedoctors in Germany made ZombieSmash, while Page44 handled the iOS port of World of Goo. HipLogic is from San Francisco and AstroApe is in New York. The acquisitions took place between August and December.

Zynga has been making aggressive moves in buying studios and bringing in new talent. The Wall Street Journal recently reported that the aggressive moves make for a high-risk game that could prove to be a liability.

They could certainly use the talent they are buying up, every Zynga title seems to be the same game with a different skin. Thanks to Activision, we already have plenty of those.

Zynga's in trouble; they need to get 10 million daily active users per quarter to be profitable. They released a game in January that didn't break 1 million in its first 12 days, and that number keeps declining after that point.

This is according to an analyst report released yesterday; IIRC Gamasutra reported on it.

It seems like they're banking on another FarmVille, and chances of that are almost zero. Even the SEC questioned the viability of their business model when they filed for IPO.

yea i believe their issue is that they cannot get new users. they are only recycling users across all their new games. so if thats true and you cant get new users, you need to get your current users to buy more shit

Yep, there's so much wrong with Zynga, from a business model to the way they treat their employees.

From what I've heard on industry boards they make apple look like saints.
