Ong-Bak multiplatform game coming this year
by Andrew Yoon, Jan 17, 2012 10:30am PSTTony Jaa's popular martial arts film trilogy is being adapted into a video game. Studio Hive, a Thailand-based game development team, is currently working on a "multiplatform game" that is set in the Ong-Bak universe. Details are otherwise scant, but the developer promises to work closely with Sahamongkol Film International to "achieve a much deeper story involvement for all Ong-Bak fans."
"It's a great honor for our team to work on the very first Ong-Bak multiplatform game," Hive's general manager, Kan Supabanpot, said in a press release. "As a Thai development studio we love the movie and have a deep understanding of the Ong-Bak brand values and we make sure that the videogame will be an inspiring martial arts action experience for gamers."
The team is aiming for a 2012 release, but they may be overly ambitious. Hive doesn't appear to have any experience developing games, being self-described as a "computer illustration and concept art production studio." Hive did collaborate with Square Enix to create the art for Front Mission Evolved.
