2010's Digital: A Love Story was an unappreciated gem, a mysterious and sweet little sci-fi visual novel told through BBSs "five minutes into the future of 1988." Now, developer Christine Love's blasting off into the far-flung future with the sequel Analogue: A Hate Story. In Love's own words, Analogue is "A dark visual novel that further extends the non-linear style of Digital: A Love Story in a mystery featuring transhumanism, traditional marriage, loneliness, and cosplay," packing several endings. The story will unfold aboard a lost colonization vessel from the 25th century, rediscovered multiple millenia after it silently vanished in deep space. Together with a "spunky AI sidekick," you'll uncover just what went wrong by working through the crew's logs, and maybe, just maybe, learn a little about love and/or hate along the way. Due on PC, Mac and Linux some time this month, Analogue will cost $15. It may sound weird and different and scary and you may refuse to play anything with anime artwork, but given how smashing Digital was, it could be jolly pleasant.
