The soul still burns... every time we hear about a misguided port for iOS. Following the footsteps of Street Fighter, Namco Bandai has announced a touch-screen port of the original Soul Calibur for iOS devices.

Available later this month, the iOS port is based on the Dreamcast original, and will feature all 19 fighters and a plethora of modes: arcade, time attack, survival, extra survival, practice, and museum.

According to Andriasang, the game will be a Universal app supporting iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4, and iPad 2. As evidenced by the first screenshots, the game will take advantage of a virtual pad--typically not ideal for games that demand precision.

It really is, and Capcom has updated it since release to add new characters for free. Not sure how it was a misguided port.

its a fighting game played on a touchscreen, they made a good effort and its well done in technical terms (it doesnt look terrible and is playable) but its like eating soup with a fork.

There's still a decent level of control despite the input scheme. You can still pull off pretty involved stuff like multi-hit combos and FADC moves. It may not be as good as an arcade stick but it's fun and probably still one of the better games out for mobile phones.
