The MLB2K series will once again offer the chance to win $1 million for pitching a perfect game, when Major League Baseball 2K12 launches in March, but the contest is being shaken up this year with a live eight-player final tournament.

Before, players simply had to be first to pitch a perfect game--no hits, no walks, no batters ever reaching base--and have video evidence of their feat to lift the novelty over-sized check.

With 2K12, from MLB Opening Day on April 4 through the end of the month, players will compete on a ranked leaderboard for one of eight spots in the live final tournament, able to play again to improve their standing. How some games can be more perfect than others, only 2K knows for now. You'll no longer need to record a video, as pitching a perfect game will give you a unique code to submit online.

The contest will only run on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, though MLB 2K12 will also slide into PC, Wii, PS2, PSP, and Nintendo DS when it launches on March 6. It's developed by Visual Concepts and published by 2K Sports.

As far as I can see, 2K's being very quiet and cagey about the whole thing. They've announced the cover athlete and... that's about it.

I played 2k11 and its actually not bad. Although, it does have the absolute heart-breaking bug of a home run that is also an out, whenever it is hit close to the fence and the outfielder catches it. Its sort of silly, to hear the crowd boo/get sad to a home run that is also an out.

I didn't pick up 11. How long was it delayed from the console release last year? Or was it just delayed on steam?

I think it was just delayed on steam, but can't say I payed that much attention.
