The PlayStation network added two college sports application to its on-demand video lineup. XOS College Sports and SEC Digital Network (also XOS but with content only from SEC schools) will let PS3 owners stream a variety of free programming including pre-game shows from the XOS Digital Studio, post-game highlights, weekly coaches conferences, and classic games dating back to the 1950's. Full in-season games will also be available, but only for purchase and not until the day after the live event.

A quick look at the existing XOS College Sports and SEC Digital sites found a large number of free videos. The value of that collection, though, depends a lot on your favorite team and sport. There are a number of highlight shows and classic games, but, for example, narrowing the results to football games from the season that just concluded resulted in an empty slate. Also, the filtering option for conferences only listed SEC, MAC, and Big East. So depending what you're looking for you may come up empty, but, for college sports fans there is an awful lot of free stuff to browse through.

Both apps should be available now in the Media & Apps section of the PlayStation Store. Once installed, they can be launched from the TV/Video Icon on the XrossMediaBar PS3 interface.

So instead of watching stuff live on ESPN3 as it is happening, for free, I can pay Sony to watch games a day later?
