Ghost Recon: Future Soldier delayed to May; beta coming to Xbox 360 and PS3

Ghost Recon: Future Solider has been delayed once again, this time being pushed to May. The game's beta has also been moved and will no longer be exclusive to the Xbox 360.

After a development cycle so long that some of its original futuristic concepts are probably now a reality, Ubisoft has announced Ghost Recon: Future Soldier will launch on May 22 in North America and May 24 in Europe for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. And continuing Ubisoft's track record, the PC version of the game won't be available until "a later date."

The long-awaited beta for Ghost Recon: Future Soldier was also dated, but Ubisoft announced it is no longer an Xbox 360 exclusive. The beta is set to arrive in April for both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

"We have made the decision to move the date in order to ensure that all these ingredients are pushed to the highest level and provide a truly unique shooter experience," Ubisoft France's IP development director Adrian Lacey said.

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier was originally expected on store shelves in 2010 before being pushed between January 1 and March 31 of 2011. In October, Ubisoft announced the game was pushed to March 6, 2012.

Oh, you mean that beta I was guaranteed when I bought Splinter Cell: Conviction? That beta? Only a couple years late.

I'm just glad they didn't cancel the PC version outright like they had planned. I had been planning on purchasing it for OnLive until that announcement. Looks like they (and hopefully other publishers) have cottoned onto the fact that the Xbox isn't preventing piracy (see Crysis 2) and things like Onlive can give them access to free demos to attract more customers, will run on systems that can't run the game and gives them access to the Mac and Mobile markets with a much smaller buy in price than doing those things on their own. Good move Ubisoft :)
