Best of 2011 Honorable Mention: LittleBigPlanet 2
by Andrew Yoon, Jan 09, 2012 12:00pm PSTLittleBigPlanet 2 is the quintessential sequel. It is, in every way, a bigger, better, and yes, more badass game than its predecessor. LBP2 does more than offer "more of the same." Given the original's infinite expandability offered by the UGC community, it's no wonder Media Molecule attempted something drastically different for the sequel.
Instead of making a side-scrolling platform, LBP2 is a games platform unto itself, giving Sackboy enthusiasts the ability to play and make RPGs, strategy games, shooters, and more.
While LBP2 may offer some of the best game-creation tools ever, what makes it one of the year's best games is the inclusion of yet another brilliantly cheerful campaign to play through, narrated once again by the ever-charming Stephen Fry. Media Molecule's witty writing, coupled with some clever cooperative puzzles, make LBP2 as deep as it is flexible. Perhaps LBP2's only fault is that it came out so early in the year, making it easier to omit in other year-end awards.
