50% off AoE3 should really be more like $5...

If it says (Steamworks) beside the title, you're essentially buying a Steam key, correct?

        Correct ;)

Correct. The CD-key is guaranteed to be Steam-compatible, so you can buy the game elsewhere if it's cheaper and just activate it on Steam.

Be careful though... I bought Mafia II from Amazon during xmas, and it will not activate on Steam. I think it may be a region issue, because I reside in Australia and the game I bought was the US version... and I think this is BS.

The other game I could not activate was LA Noire, although this is not Steamworks anyway.

4 other games I bought from Amazon, including Deus Ex, have activated on Steam no worries.

Try using a US proxy to activate it.

Thx. Proxy did not work, I had to use a VPN... this worked. Mafia II now activated and downloading.

I know about the price differences US vs AUS already, but while I was using the VPN, I spotted a price difference that just blew me away. SHIFT 2 Unleashed... $79.99 for AUS vs US $19.99. Oo

The only one of those from Amazon that I don't already have that looks even vaguely interesting is Bad Company 2. Kind of what's the point in buying that now, though, since I already have BF3? This $5 credit is going to go to waste.

Be sure to check out greenmangaming every day for great daily deals.

Each day they have a featured title for 75% (and a bunch of other games) and it tends to be a steamworks game which is great (previously Space Marine, DoW2:Retribution and today is Homefront)
