Despite the success of indie darling Bastion, a sequel is not in the works. According to Super Giant Games' Greg Kasavin, the developer now has the freedom to self-fund its next project and the team wants to work on something fresh.

"Thankfully Bastion has performed well enough to give us the resources to create another game on our own terms, meaning we can self-fund the project and take the time we need to get it right."

"Our stance around what we want to do in the future hasn't changed in light of Bastion's success," Kasavin told Eurogamer. Though he wouldn't confirm the developer's upcoming plans, he did note that the "core team" will remain on staff to craft its next title.

"We always intended for Bastion to be a stand-alone game though we did aim to create a rich world for it that could potentially support other stories," he said, leaving some hope for a return to the universe in the future. "It can't just be a financially motivated decision because that's not how Bastion was created in the first place."

Good. It's better that way than the modern sequel attitude that publishers push on devs today

Not every title needs every possible design wrench thrown in it. And a number of games have gone this route only to turn out disappointing. Just like MP design it doesn't always make it better to add co-op.

Why? Why would I want this? I mean sure I loved Bastion and would like to play more, but I only loved Portal 2 and wanted to play it more cause there was four years between it and the original.

But you know what I love to play the most? New original games. Nothing is as cool and exciting to me as getting to experience something I have not before. I am in the minority for that. We've gone from a sentiment of despising sequels to people actively anticipating and wishing for new franchises in favour of original releases. So they've decided to make another original property, especially in this climate? I could almost suck their dick for that.

That's good news. I loved Bastion, but it doesn't need a sequel. Hell, I'm interested in whatever these guys do next.

It was okay - at least the part I played of it. But the actual gameplay was just sort of clunky and too old-school for me, at least.

Surprising - then they should do a prequel!
