The Binding of Isaac awaiting 3DS approval

Want to play The Binding of Isaac on the go... and in 3D? A third party is willing to port the game to Nintendo's handheld, but it currently awaits approval from The Big N.

Have you bought The Binding of Isaac yet? Indie Jeff has covered Edmund McMillen's dungeon-crawling roguelike quite extensively.

"But Shacknews," you hypothetically say. "I don't have a gaming PC capable of playing this low-tech indie game." To our surprise, you even note that "I'm reading this post from the 3DS web browser." Well, imaginary 3DS fan. You might be able to play The Binding of Isaac on your Nintendo portable.

Speaking on Formspring (via Joystiq), McMillen said that "a publisher I know is currently asking Nintendo if they would be OK with Isaac on the 3DS." Should Nintendo approve the game, the publisher will then begin the porting process.

Unfortunately, if Nintendo doesn't approve the port, it's unlikely we'll ever see Isaac escape to consoles and other platforms. McMillen notes that 3DS is "the only other system you might ever see Isaac on," showing his continued dedication to Nintendo--in spite of never being able to release Super Meat Boy on WiiWare like originally intended.

Yeah, there's about zero chance of that one happening.

      $5 says it's Nicalis.
Another $5 says Nintendo won't accept because religious themes and gore everywhere.

I'll throw a five on that second bet as well. I have a hard time imagining Nintendo giving the thumbs-up on this one.

I know you joke about not being able to run this game on your pc but I can only run it at like half its intended speed. It's so poorly optimised. My PC isn't terrible either:

      AMD Athlon 6000+ X2 3GHz
      8GB DDR2 800MHz RAM
      XFX Radeon HD 5750
      MSI NEO K9N v3
      Windows 7 x64

Boot device is a 60GB WD SSD and my Steam drive is a 2TB 7200RPM HDD.

I'm upgrading my PC in January because the processor is a bit slow but really, come on now, the slowdown is so bad in this game that I probably only lost 5 hearts in the entire course of the game first try, since all the projectiles were flying so slow. (I imagine I got ridiculously lucky though too 'cause by the third floor I had a 3 fly halo, an admirer from afar fly and a forever alone fly (though I dunno what they actually did), a ladder, a 9V battery (again, no idea what it did), mom's shoes and chocolate bubble bullets and I'd won 99 coins on the slot machine in the arcade).

Dude I know how to turn on full screen, and no; it doesn't help.

Yeah, I had a spider bite as well as sad onion and various other upgrades and the game became unplayable due to the lag. I would ice skate into spikes in the depths since I could no longer really control my super speedy isaac. Sucked having to restart with all of that :c. Wish the game had a save feature.

i think the thing is written in flash, which pretty much explains why it's so slow.

What's wrong with a PSN or XBLA release? Super Meat Boy is on there...

This game is way to messed up, thematically, for Nintendo to touch it with a 80-foot pole. It's not just the violence/gore and demonic/religious stuff, the whole game revolves around child abuse. There are abortion jokes, not to mention the drugs and feces... I think it's a laugh riot, but my girlfriend, for example, is deeply disturbed by it, and she's not uptight at all.
