The indie puzzle-platformer Rochard has been on PlayStation Network and Steam, but now the grizzled space miner has made a surprise appearance on Mac as well. Better yet, the App Store is offering the game for $2.99 for a limited time, 70% off the regular price.
The listing (via Joystiq) doesn't mention how long the offer will last, but at three bucks it's hard to argue. Rochard is a puzzle-platformer with liberal use of a G-lifter -- think "Gravity Gun" -- to make it past obstacles. It received a positive reception, so picking it up should be a no-brainer for Mac gamers that have a capable-enough rig.
The developer notes that "the game does not run on most of the integrated video cards such as Intel GMA. It also requires at least 256 MB of video memory to run smoothly." Here are the minimum requirements:
- OS: Mac OS X 10.6.6 or later
- Processor: 2.6 GHz single core
- Memory: 1 GB
- Hard Disk Space: 3 GB
Here are the recommended requirements:
- Processor: 3.0 GHz dual core
- Memory: 2 GB
Based on these requirements, only a few current-gen Mac products can actually run the game: select iMac, Mac Pro, and MacBook Pro systems will be able to run the game. The MacBook Air and Mac Mini will not be able to run the game at all.
