PlanetSide 2 beta applications now open
by Steve Watts, Dec 22, 2011 7:45am PSTSony has given the PlanetSide 2 site a facelift, and included sign-ups for beta access in the process. If you already have a Sony Online Entertainment Station account, that can serve as a shortcut to a process that's pretty painless on the whole.
The beta application can be found prominently on the right side of the site (via Massively), and doesn't require you to fill out a beta questionnaire. The spruced-up site even includes a little holiday thank-you from the team.
SOE's John Smedley recently confirmed that the game would be free-to-play, hinting that the team likes League of Legends. The game still has no firm release date, but it's expected early next year. Smedley only committed to "when it's ready and we are proud of it," but an impending beta is a good sign.
